The sequel is being directed by I Am Mother director Grant Sputore, and marks a new creative direction for the franchise. Sputore replaces Adam Wingard, who directed the previous films. Dave Callaham, who wrote Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, is writing the script for the film. Legendary has revealed that the story will feature Godzilla and Kong, along with several new human characters, facing a terrifying threat that could destroy the world, but exact plot details are still under wraps.
In addition to Sam Neill, the film will also star Dan Stevens, who reprised his role as Trapper Beasley from Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. New cast members include Caitlin Dever, Jack O'Connell, Matthew Modine, Delroy Lindo, and Alicia Debnam-Carey. Dever and O'Connell will reportedly play siblings, with Lindo playing Dever's boss. While details about Neill's role are still unknown, there's speculation that he could appear as a father figure or older relative to Dever and O'Connell, which would add an interesting twist to his Jurassic Park role.
The MonsterVerse franchise began with Godzilla in 2014 and expanded with Kong: Skull Island, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, and Godzilla vs. Kong. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire became the highest-grossing film in the franchise, grossing $570 million worldwide. The addition of a talented actor like Sam Neill to this star-studded cast raises hopes that the MonsterVerse will reach new heights under new director Sputter. Fans are eagerly awaiting to see what role Neill will play in this massive titan showdown.
