Director Karthik Subbaraj has spoken openly about the failure of Ram Charan’s ‘Game Changer’ directed by Shankar. The film was made based on Karthik’s one-liner. However, in an interview, he revealed that although he gave this one-liner, director Shankar and his team completely rewrote the story and script. “I gave the basic idea of an IAS officer becoming a politician,” Karthik said. However, the idea turned into a different world in Shankar’s hands.

Speaking to Galatta Tamil, Karthik explained that the story had deviated a lot from his original idea. “When I gave the idea to Shankar sir, I expected him to develop it to a large extent. But, many writers worked on the script and made changes to the story itself,” he added. This suggests that these changes may have affected the original direction of the film.
‘Game Changer’ not only failed to achieve the expected success in the theatres but also received negative reviews from critics and audiences. Produced by Dil Raju under the banner of Sri Venkateswara Creations on a budget of over Rs 300 crore, the film did not even earn Rs 180 crore at the box office. Despite the huge budget and star cast, the film did not attract the audience, which became a big debate.

Regarding the film’s failure, Karthik said that there is no exact formula to define the success or failure of a film. “No one can say exactly why films connect with the audience or why they do not,” he commented. He did not give a clear answer to the question whether the film’s failure was related to changes in his original idea.
Meanwhile, Karthik Subbaraj is waiting for the release of his new film Suriya’s ‘Retro’. Despite the failure of ‘Game Changer’, Karthik’s ideas always have a special place in Indian cinema. Fans are hoping that he will attract the audience again with ‘Retro’. In the wake of the 'Game Changer' failure, it is once again becoming clear how important the original idea of the story and its presentation are to the success of the film.
